BOX OFFICE: ‘Commando’ Beats ‘Nautanki Saala’ On Day 1

Both the relatively smaller budget films have taken an average to fair opening at the box office, with 'Commando' scoring marginally higher than 'Nautanki Saala' due to its mass appeal.

MUMBAI: This week saw the release of two new films – R.S Entertainment’s ‘Nautanki Saala’ directed by Rohan Sippy, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Pooja Salvi, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Evelyn Sharma; and Vipul Shah’s ‘Commando’ directed by Dilip Ghosh featuring Vidyut Jamwal, Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat.

Both the relatively smaller budget films have taken an average to fair opening at the box office, with ‘Commando’ scoring marginally higher than ‘Nautanki Saala’ due to its mass appeal.

The witty rom-com ‘Nautanki Saala’ has, on day 1, garnered opening collections of approximately Rs 32. 5 million (Rs 3.25 crore) net. The film is fared better in multiplexes of Northern India, perhaps due to Ayushmann Khurrana and his punjabi influence.

On the other hand action thriller ‘Commando’ found more takers in the massy circuits and single screens. With top performance in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the film’s opening collections were in the range of Rs 37.7 million (Rs 3.77 crore) net.

There are mixed reviews for both the films, across the board. Performance on the opening weekend will determine the ability to sustain Week 1.
