MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Himmatwala’, directed by Sajid Khan, starring Ajay Devgn and southern star Tamannaah, has had a dull first week at the box office.
Contrary to director Sajid Khan’s belief that the film would be a blockbuster from Day 1, ‘Himmatwala’ has taken a very average opening in it’s first week. The bad reviews and word-of-mouth have only cemented this trend.
As reported, on opening day, ‘Himmatwala’ managed a fair opening of Rs 118.2 million (Rs 11.82 crore net) on Friday. However, Day 2 Saturday saw the collections plummet to Rs 83.5 million (Rs 8.35 crore) net, thanks to the reviews and widespread negative word-of-mouth.
On Day 3, Sunday the film saw a very mild up swing, bringing the three day total up to a dismal Rs 292.7 million (Rs 29.27 crore) net.
Day 4 and Day 5 were no better, with collections dipping to Rs 41.5 million (4.15 crore) net and Rs 40 million (4 crore) net respectively.
Currently, the week one total of Sajid Khan’s ‘Himmatwala’ stands at Rs 423.5 million (42.35 crore) net.
