Even though Queen managed to garner rave reviews by the critics its opening day collection has been below average.
Queen that opened to 1100 screens across India, managed to collect approximately Rs 20 million (2.0 crore) nett on its first day.
Kangana Ranaut starrer Queen opened to rave reviews, but it failed to garner audience’s attention on the opening day. The morning shows received around fifteen to twenty percent occupancy. It was only in the evening that the shows picked up.
Kangana Ranaut is yet to give a solo hit and prove her star value. Well we all know that it happened to Rajjo at the Box Office. But then Queen is no where even close to Rajjo. Also Queen is a very multiplex film and may not do that well at single screens and mass centers.
Queen is an unusual story of a simple girl from Rajouri in Delhi, Rani (Kangana Ranaut) who has simple expectations from life. A student of Home Science, she helps her father at his sweet shop, which is where she first meets Vijay (Rajkummar Rao). Vijay persistently pursues Rani with red ‘ILU’ balloons and taking her in the library until she finally relents.
Rani (Kangana Ranaut), is all set to bee married, but she ends up going for her honeymoon to Amsterdam and Paris all by herself. The film is comical, fun and has an inherent cuteness to it.
Kangana Ranaut has got into the skin of the character of a typical Delhi girl. Her accent and her attires like jeans, skirts, kurtas and sweaters make the character more believable, not to miss the handbag that she carries all along.
The actress manages to look very cute and belts out a great comic timing, thus reminding us of her film Tanu Weds Manu. Queen was premiered at Busan Film Festival in October 2013.
Directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the film also stars Lisa Hayden and Rajkummar Rao.
Queen is expected to pick up during the weekend, as the word of mouth for the film is terrific.
