Box Office: Revolver Rani, Samrat & Co. And Kaanchi Spell Disaster

Revolver Rani Main coverThe Kangana Ranaut starrer Revolver Rani and the Subhash Ghai movie Kaanchi both have a disastrous opening weekend. While Revolver Rani was expected to open well, the film has opened about fifty percent less from her previous release Queen.

Post Queen, lot was expected from Kangana Ranaut but the audience did not seem to like Revolver Rani much. According to the producer, Tigmanshu DhuliaRevolver Rani, was targeting as a complete B-grade entertainer with Kangana Ranaut shooting guns and acting more like a male hero but then the film just fell last as it mad minimal footfalls.

Also post Queen, Kangana’s character in Revolver Rani, did not go down well with the audience and it seems that they have rejected the film outright. Revolver Rani, for all its retro style and ingredients, could not garner the kind of acceptance as expected. On the other hand, Revolver Rani does draw heavily from old Hindi movie traditions while completely demolishing the dependence of the political thriller on conventional machismo.

Revolver Rani managed to collect Rs 65 million (Rs 6.5  crore) nett approximately over the first weekend. Now coming to Subhash Ghai‘s Kaanchi, well the film has barely managed to collect only Rs 22.5 million (Rs 2.25 crore) nett at the indian Box Office over the weekend .

While the third release Samrat & Co. had extremely low collection making approximately Rs 6 million (Rs 60 lakhs) nett over the weekend.

Kaanchi, Revolver Rani and Samrat & Co. were the three releases last Friday but none of the films attracted the audiences to the ticket window.

While the three new release met with a disastrous opening, last weeks release the Alia Bhatt Arjun Kapoor starrer 2 States  is still going strong, it had a great weekend taking its total up to approximately Rs 740 million (Rs 74 crore) nett in ten days.

While Kangana Ranaut‘s Revolver Rani has some hope to due decent word of mouth Kaanchi and Samrat & Co. might not be able to sail through to make it the second week in theatres.

Next Week, shall see the release of five films; Angry Young Man and Kahin Hai Mera Pyar shall release on May 01, 2014 and on May 02, 2014 Kya Dilli Kya LahorePurani Jeans and The Dirty MMS hit the silver screen.
