Box Office: Shahid-Sonam’s Mausam nets Rs 60 million on opening day

MUMBAI: Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor’s Mausam, which is directed by Pankaj Kapoor, has taken a decent opening at the box office.
Mausam managed 50-60% occupancy at multiplexes across India, while single screens also were decent at around 45 – 50 %.
On Friday, despite the not so great reviews, the movie’s net collections stood at approximately Rs 60 million (Rs 6 crore), which is far better than Shahid’s previous movies.
Yash Raj Films’ Badmaash Company had done a net business of approximately Rs 130 million (Rs 13 crore) in its opening weekend in India.
On the other hand UTV Motion Pictures’ Kaminey starring Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra had done a net business of approximately Rs 170 million (Rs 17 crore) in India in the first week.
The public response of the film on social media has also been mixed. Also the film has been surrounded in controversies, which has managed to help it get the initial opening, although it remains to be seen how the film will perform at the box office in the coming days.
Mausam is the directorial debut movie of veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, which was highly anticipated by the Indian Film industry most of whom were present at the premiere held in Mumbai recently. 
Said Hrithik Roshan who was present at the premiere, "Shaahid is looking very good and I am a big fan of Pankaj Kapur and am looking forward to watching the film."
The  premiere was well attended by celebrities like Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherji, Genelia D’souza, Ayesha Takia, Shabana Azmi, Prakash Jha, Anil Kapoor, Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra and others.
