BOX OFFICE: ‘Student Of The Year’ Races Ahead Of All New Releases

MUMBAI: Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment’s ‘Student Of The Year’, Karan Johar’s latest candy floss offering to Bollywood lovers is racing way ahead of all new releases at the Box Office.

Starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Rishi Kapoor, the film released on 19 October with a good Rs 90 million (9 crore net).

With highest performance from multiplexes in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore, the three day opening weekend total of the film was in the range of Rs 285 million (Rs 28.5 crore) net.

Friday, 26th October, in spite of many new releases (Prakash Jha’s ‘Chakravyuh’ starring Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, and Esha Gupta; Vashu Bhagnani’s ‘Ajab Ghazabb Love’ starring newcomers Jackky Bhagnani and Niddhi Subbaiah; and the late Shamin Desai’s ‘Rush’ starring Emraan Hashmi, Aditya Pancholi, Neha Dhupia and Sagarika Ghatge) ‘Student of the Year’ remained the first choice for cinegoers.

The collections have been aided by the many holidays within the first week of SOTY, on account of Dussehra and Bakri-Eid.

The ten day total of the film is now in the range of Rs 580 million (Rs 58 crore) net.

Interestingly, the best figures have come in from Delhi city beating even Mumbai’s numbers.

Cinegoers have appreciated the fresh faces Karan Johar has brought in, the sparkly, glossy treatment and the performances of the youngsters Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Siddharth Malhotra.
