Box Office: Tanu Weds Manu takes good opening despite World Cup

MUMBAI: Viacom Motion Pictures’ Tanu Weds Manu starring R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut has taken a decent opening at the box office.
The movie saw net collections of approximately Rs 112.5 million (Rs 11.25 crore) in it’s opening weekend. As was reported by Businessofcinema.com, on Friday the net collections stood at Rs 32.5 million (Rs 3.25 crore). On Saturday and Sunday, the movie’s collections picked up and were approximately Rs 43 million (Rs 4.3 crore) and Rs 37 million (Rs 3.7 crore) respectively. This can be termed as a considerably good performance keeping in mind that the cricket World Cup 2011 matches are also on. 
The movie was made on a budget of Rs 160 million (Rs 16 crore) including the print and publicity. Additionally, the satellite rights of Tanu Weds Manu have fetched the production house approximately Rs 90 million (Rs 9 crore). With the initial box office collections and the sale of satellite rights, the production cost of the movie has been recovered.
