BOX OFFICE: Slow Start For Emraan Hashmi's ‘Ek Thi Daayan’

Balaji Motion Pictures’ ‘Ek Thi Daayan’, co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj, and directed by Kannan Iyer, has seen an average start at the box office.

The film, which stars Emraan Hashmi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Mukul Sharma, Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin in leading roles, has managed to garner a fair opening of Rs 55 million (5.5 crore) net on Day 1.

However, the collections of ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ on the first day are not comparable to other Emraan Hashmi starrers, which have, in the past, generated a lot more revenue on opening day. For instance, Emraan Hashmi’s last few films, ‘Raaz 3’, ‘Shanghai’ and ‘Rush’ have fared slightly better at the ticketing windows on opening day. On its first weekend, ‘Raaz 3’ had collected in the range of Rs 361 million (Rs. 36.10 crore) net.

It remains to be seen whether ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ can pick up the pace, and entice weekend audiences with it’s spook fest. The film has managed to garner fairly good reviews, so that should aid in bringing in the crowds into the theatres.
