MUMBAI: As we had reported, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, has become an unstoppable tour de force at the box office (SEE REPORT HERE)
Produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Chennai Express’ is once again riding the holiday wave, with collections soaring on Wednesday and Thursday, 15 August.
Wednesday’s figures were in the range of Rs 123.9 million (Rs 12.39 crore) net, while Thursday (a National Holiday for Independence Day) saw collections swell to an unprecedented Rs 192.8 million (Rs 19.28 crore) net.
The 7 day total for ‘Chennai Express’ stands at a staggering Rs 1.48 billion (Rs 148.94 crore) net. Including paid previews, the collections stand at a mighty, unchallenged Rs 1.55 billion (Rs 155.69 crore) net.
‘Chennai Express’ had a strong 5 days at the box office prior to this, garnering around Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crore) net on its very first day, 9 August 2013. Saturday and Sunday’s figures too were a whopping Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crore) net and Rs 325 million (Rs 32.5 crore) net respectively. Including paid previews, the film had already crossed the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark by the opening weekend.
Monday and Tuesday’s collections were equally impressive at approximately Rs 124.1 million (Rs 12.41 crore) net and Rs 113.6 million (Rs 11.36 crore) net respectively.
The first five day’s saw figures in the range of a staggering Rs 1.1727 billion (Rs 117.27 crore) net (excluding paid previews).
