LOS ANGELES: When ‘Avatar’ released in 2009, it revolutionised 3D technology. Bringing the world of Pandora to audiences everywhere, director James Cameron tackled a timely environmental issue. But James Cameron has previously stated that there is a lot more to the world of Pandora, because of which two sequels were announced. One of them – ‘Avatar 2’ – would release in the winter of 2015.
But now James Cameron has gone ahead and said that he will direct three sequels to his blockbuster film. ‘Avatar’, which is the highest-grossing film of all time, will get sequels that release in December 2016, December 2017, and the third in 2018.
The three movies will be filmed simultaneously as production begins next year. James Cameron has also hired a few screenwriters to fasten the scripting process and build upon the world of Pandora. These screenwriters are Josh Friedman (‘War Of The Worlds’, ‘The Black Dahlia’), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’) and Shane Salerno (‘Savages’, ‘Armageddon’)
When ‘Avatar’ released in 2009, it not only received commercial success, but critical acclaim too. It received nine Oscar nominations of which it won three in Best Cinematography, Visual Effects and Art Direction.
