Disney-Pixar’s animation film UP to open Festival de Cannes

MUMBAI: UP, the new animation film from the Disney-Pixar studios, produced under Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios chief creative officer John Lasseter’s supervision, will be the opening ceremony film of the 62nd Festival de Cannes.

This is the first time that an animation film, in 3-D, will be the opening ceremony film at the Festival de Cannes. The movie will be premiered on Disney Digital 3-D on 13 May, 2009.

UP, a comedy adventure in which 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen fulfils his dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America, only to discover that he has brought with him his biggest nightmare, a 9-year-old Wilderness Explorer stowaway.

UP is directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Bob Peterson.

UP will be released in the US on 29 May and in France on 29 July. The Festival de Cannes will be held from 13 – 24 May.
