LodgeNet, NBC Universal ink film licensing deal

MUMBAI: LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation has signed a new multi-year licensing agreement with NBC Universal. The deal includes NBCU’s approval of LodgeNet’s in-room high-definition (HD) technology solution, which will distribute select Universal feature films on LodgeNet’s sigNETure HDTV platform.

Guests in hotel rooms served by LodgeNet’s high-definition video on demand (VOD) systems will enjoy Universal titles such as Hot Fuzz, Georgia Rule and others in high-definition. All Universal titles will feature LodgeNet’s PowerPlay media playback controls, providing Pause, Skip and Save (bookmarking) flexibility.

“This agreement marks a new phase in our long and valued relationship with Universal. Universal has a strong slate of titles for hotel release during the summer travel season that will be even more compelling to guests when offered in high-definition,” said LodgeNet senior vice president programming and content management Steve Truckenmiller.

“LodgeNet has established its leadership in bringing entertainment to guest rooms and we look forward to continuing our partnership to offer travelers a broad array of entertainment options,” said NBC Universal Digital Distribution senior vice president Michael Bonner.

LodgeNet has distributed high-definition programming to select hotel guest rooms since 2003 and currently delivers HD VOD content from many major motion picture studios and distributors. The company’s sigNETure HDTV systems integrate Pro:Idiom, an open standard content security solution developed by LG Electronics to protect the integrity of premium digital entertainment at every point in the distribution chain.
