AR Rahman bags two Grammy awards

MUMBAI: A R Rahman has done it again. The music maestro has bagged two trophies for his score in Slumdog Millionaire at the 52nd Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. This is the first time that Rahman has been nominated for a Grammy.

Rahman won the awards for Best Compilation Soundtrack for a motion picture and the Best Motion Picture Song. In the best song category Rahman’s competition included Bruce Springsteen for his song The Wrestler, from the movie of the same name while Rahman’s competitors in the soundtrack category included Steve Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds, Jordan for Cadillac Records and the producers of Twilight and True Blood.

Besides the Grammy, Rahman’s Jai Ho has also won him the most prestigious international awards including, the Oscars, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Critics Choice Award and The Golden Globe. The song has been written by lyricist Gulzar and Tanvi Shah, and was sung by Sukhvinder Singh, Mahalaxmi Iyer and Vijay Prakash.
