MUMBAI: On the occasion of World Music Day on 21 June, singer Lata Mangeshkar released her new album Saadgi, after a gap of 17 years. The chief guest for this evening was Jagjit Singh, with whom Mangeshkar had last released an album.
The Ghazal-like compositions of the album have been penned by Javed Akhtar and the music has been composed by Mayuresh Pai.
On the occasion of the launch Mangeshkar said, “There is no reason why the album happened, but it just happened. Nothing was pre-planned. Everything just fell into place. The lyrics appealed to me and I could identify with it. Music is my life. As long as I am, so will my music.”
The event also saw the likes of Usha Mangeshkar, Javed Akhtar – the lyricist of the album, Suresh Wadkar, music director duo Anand – Milind, the model cum actor Khalid Siddique who featured in the video of Saadgi, Chitra Singh- wife of Jagjit Singh, T-Series chairman and managing director Bhushan Kumar and Divya Khosla Kumar.
