Saregama pronounced as rightful copyright owner of the song Apni Toh Jaise Taise

MUMBAI: The Calcutta High Court pronounced its judgment in favor of Saregama as being the rightful copyright owner of the song Apni Toh Jaise Taise from the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Laawaris.

The ongoing dispute was with legal heirs of Prakash Mehra, who was the producer of the film Laawaris and also with its music composer duo of Kalyanji Anandji as they opposed the rights of Saregama. While vacating the ad-interim injunction granted by the single judge of the same court the division bench headed by Justice Sengupta observed that Saregama has all rights to grant license for use of the song Apni Toh Jaise Taise in the new film Housefull.

In a similar matter, recently B Subhash, producer of the movie Disco Dancer had moved Bombay High Court opposing usage of the songs from the film Disco Dancer in Anjaana Anjaan’ by Sajid Nadiadwala and Golmaal 3 by Ashtavinayak Films. The license to use the songs from the movie Disco Dancer was again granted by Saregama. After hearing submissions of the parties Bombay High Court justice Dharmadhikari refused to pass any order granting ad-interim injunction from release of the movies.

Saregama MD Apurv Nagpal said, “I have complete faith in the judicial system and the judgments re-establishes the same. People who are trying to disrepute Saregama will henceforth have to think twice.”
