MUMBAI: Kishore Kumar’s music has lived through the years and a concert in Gurgaon by singer Shaan, who sang evergreen hits of the legendary actor-singer, was proof enough.
Be it children in early teens or the elderly ones in the crowd — people across all ages swayed to Kishore da’s tunes Sunday night as Shaan performed at a musical evening dedicated to the legendary singer.
One could see the crowd of over 1,000 Kishore Kumar fans in the audience completely engrossed as Shaan set the mood for the show.
The singer was pleasantly surprised to see kids in their early teens requesting songs like "Pal pal dil ke paas" and "Zindagi ek safar hai suhana".
"It is heartening to see kids knowing the songs of Kishore da. Wonder if he would ever know how popular he is among kids too," said Shaan.
Shaan made it a special event for the audience, as he chose to be interactive and happily entertained the audience by singing songs of their choice.
He treated the audience to melodies like "Yeh jawaani hai deewani", "Dil kya kare", "Yeh shaam mastani", "Meri soni", "Jhumroo", "Dilbar mere", "Humein tumse pyaar" and "Mere mehboob".
"The best part about any concert like this is to have a wonderful audience like you all. The excitement on people’s faces is the most gratifying part for any performer on stage," said Shaan during the performance at the Kingdom of Dreams.
The show also saw new singer June Bannerjee sharing stage with Shaan. Both the singers performed duets like "Aapki aankon mein" and "Jaane jan dhoondta phir raha".
"No one other than Shaan could have done justice to Kishore Kumar songs. I went back to the yesteryear era and thoroughly enjoyed the entire concert. Would remember it forever," said K.G. Sharma, a businessman.
Apart from Kishore Kumar songs, Shaan also sang some of his own songs like "Behti hawa", "Bhool ja" and "Tanha dil".
The concert was held as a pre-launch celebration of "Jhumroo", a new Bollywood musical to be staged at the Kingdom of Dreams starting April 7. The musical traces the life of a simpleton, a Kishore Kumar fan, who dreams of making it big in a singing reality show.
