MUMBAI: Veteran singer Mahendra Kapoor is currently recuperating from a knee replacement surgery at the Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai.
According to his son, Rohan Kapoor, the 72 year old singer had knee replacement for both knee caps. Rohan, who has acted in films like Faasle, Love ’86, Imandar and Mera Naseeb and now works as an event organiser, says, “The surgery was successful. In a few days, we will be back at work on a ‘sufi’ album we are bringing out.”
Kapoor, a three times Filmfare award winner, has been a playback singer for several films and albums. He began his career in singing with Navrang in 1959, followed by memorable numbers in films like Dhool Ka Phool, Sampoorna Ramayan, Gumrah, Sangam, Waqt, Upkar, Hamraaz, Bandhan, Purab Aur Paschim, Shor, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Amar Akbar Anthony, Noorie, Kranti, Nikaah and others. The 1999 film Dillagi was the last film where he lent his voice for a song. He has also rendered the popular titled track of B R Chopra’s epic television series Mahabharat.
