MUMBAI: Karan Johar has collaborated with Sony Music for the music of his forthcoming film My Name is Khan (MNIK) starring Shah Rukh Khan – Kajol.
Sony Music has released the songs of MNIK on iTunes worldwide on 4 January, 2010. This is three days before its release in stores on 7 January, 2010.
Sony Music India MD Shridhar Subramaniam says, “Our relationship with Dharma has covered many milestones – the fact that it’s over a decade and over 20 million copies are just two of them. We have deep respect for their ingenuity in creating innovative & trend-setting content with a wide appeal. They hold our marketing expertise and business acumen in high esteem. To say that the music of My Name Is Khan is phenomenal would be an understatement – as we feel it’s not only going to create new milestones in India but globally as well. The initiative to release the music globally on iTunes before its physical release is a part of our endeavor to make this music reach its audiences across the world as, when and how they would want to enjoy it.”
The music – composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy – is available for streaming and download across all the countries iTunes is present in.
Johar said, “For MNIK, we decided to have music which is a sharp contrast to the visuals that may dominate the screen. The music has a rustic and soulful feel; the songs aren’t your regular lip-synced numbers, as is the normal practice, yet each track is a haunting melody and will leave behind an indelible mark.’’
My Name is Khan is the triumphant story of an unconventional hero overcoming obstacles to regain the love of his life. Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Rizwan Khan – who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome. The SRK – Kajol pair – which has blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to its credit – will feature in this movie after 8 years.
