    Box Office: Don’t Breathe Is Breaking Records In India And Overseas

    Don’t Breathe by Sony Pictures Entertainment continues its dream run at the Global Box Office retaining its No. 1 position at the US Box Office for the second straight weekend.

    Directed by Fede Alvarez who helmed Evil Dead as well, Don’t Breathe became the first film in its genre (Horror/Thriller) to dwarf its Friday collections on Monday by over 120% at the Indian Box Office. Made on a shoestring budget of under 10 million USD, the movie has notched up over 55 million USD at the US Box Office and has grossed 6 Cr in India, through its release till date, capitalizing heavily on the weekend. All this can be attributed to the film’s rave reviews coupled with a very strong word of mouth conversations of film’s thrilling content.

    The film’s innovative marketing strategy contributes immensely to its opening. SPE India created a unique dark room experience akin to the film set influencers an immersive experience. The activity not only created a strong impact but also helped garner conversations around the film, motivating people to experience this thriller in cinemas. Don’t Breathe was supported by a strong 360-degree marketing campaign spreading across television, digital, outdoor and publicity.

    Sony Names Louise Chater As VP For International Strategy

    Sony-Sony Pictures Entertainment has appointed Louise Chater as the Vice President of International Strategy & Research. She will be overseeing the international theatrical market research efforts for the company and will be reporting directly to international marketing chief Michael Horn. The appointment was made by Josh Greenstein who was recently appointed as president of worldwide marketing and distribution by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

    As the company is pushing forward its reach globally, the post filled by Louise holds a lot of importance to help the studio advance in its international market. Louise Chater has previously worked in Clarius Entertainment for two years where she used to oversee the company’s strategy, acquisitions and slate development. Before that Chater worked at Walt Disney Motion Picture where she led the global research division.

    During her time at Disney, Louise Chater has overseen worldwide research of films like Cars 2, The Muppets, The Help, The Avengers and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Before joining Disney, she was the CEO of First Movies International which was a consultancy company that gave domestic and international research and strategy assistance to major as well as independent studios in UK and Europe for over a decade.

    President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Josh Greenstein stated in an interview that Louise has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience in the international marketplace.  He further added that her strategic global view will be a key asset in helping the company customize its campaigns throughout the world.

    Sony Pictures Entertainment has many Hollywood films lined up for the next couple of years including Freaks of Nature, Spectre, The Night Before, The Lady in the Van, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, The Angry Birds Movie, Inferno and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter among others.

    CALIFORNIA: Two of the biggest creative minds, Sony Pictures and Ex-CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, Tom Rothman have come together and have launched TriStar Productions, a new joint venture.

    Starting 1 September, TriStar Productions will augment the Sony Pictures Entertainment’s (SPE) strong output of motion pictures and television programming.

    TriStar Productions will have its own in-house creative production and executives and marketing while Sony Pictures will retain the distribution rights worldwide. 

    TriStar Productions will also add to the studio’s pipeline and will be associated with titles from Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Classics and so on. 

    It is expected that the new venture between the Ex-FOX Filmed Entertainment and Sony will churn at least four new films a year. All under the TriStar Productions banner. 

    Amy Pascal, Co-Chairmanm SPE says, “Tom is a rare executive who loves movies, loves filmmakers, understands how to make money and has exquisite taste. He has the perfect programming sensibility to add to our slate mix and it will be a thrill to have him as part of our team.”  

    Even Tom Rothman expressed his eagerness and enthusiasm being a part of the Sony Family. He said, “As a fan of Hollywood history, I know TriStar has a noble name.  I am honored that Michael and Amy would choose me to try to lead a new chapter in it and look forward to collaborating with all the great people at Sony, a truly terrific studio.  It feels like coming home.”  

    Sony Pictures has lined up several films like ‘ Elysium’ with Matt Damon, ‘Carrie’ with Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore, ‘American Hustle’ and ‘The Monuments Men’ lined up for release. 

    With two creative geniuses under one roof, movies surely are going to get interesting.
