Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ showcased the extreme poverty in India and made the international audience hail director Danny Boyle. However, the makers of ‘Yeh Hai India’ are not on the same page as Boyle and are looking to highlight the positive features and enormous potential of India through the film.
Himanshu Soni, who played the title role of Buddha in the popular serial Buddha arrives on the big screen for the first time with this film. He is taking a big risk by debuting with a film on social issue as mostly actors debut with romantic, chocolate-boy roles. Emphasizing his reasons for giving his nod for Yeh Hai India, Himanshu said, “Concept is the only criteria I keep in mind while signing a film. Money is the last thing on my mind and I look for films which would be liked by everyone from children to elderly. And when director Lom narrated the script to me, I was left stunned. The concept, writing and plot convinced me to star in the film.”
Whenever, movies are made to highlight factors of India, filmmakers generally use convenient subjects like corruption, politics, crime and terrorism. Yeh Hai India also employs these aspects slightly but mainly focuses on portraying the rich and superior tradition of India.
Himanshu said, “India has made tremendous progress in the past. Indians have travelled in space, they invented zero and first university. Though England invented cricket, the God of cricket is an Indian. However, our citizens accept all the negative talks about our country and do not bother to do anything for the good of the country. Even citizens of different countries look down upon us and consider us inferior.”
But Lom’s script refrains from indulging in this conventional criticism of India.
Himanshu said. “Lom’s script for Yeh Hai India proves that India is not inferior to any country. My character in the film wants to explore the traditional achievements of India and so he lands in India from UK. He finds the hassles of corruption, pollution, population and other such issues. But gradually as he gets to know more about India, he rediscovers the rich heritage of India, why Britishers ruled over India and which Indian principles they’re still following. “
Snubbing inequality and discrimination and embracing unity can create unprecedented success for India and this is the basic theme of the film.
Himanshu said, “We are not conveying a message through the film but merely depicting the truth. If we focus of being one and together and do not divide ourselves into being Sikh, Muslim, Christian and other religions then no one can stop us from being the best in sports, education and other departments.”
Himanshu feels the youth of the country can do wonders if given an opportunity to handle the affairs of the country.
He said, “If given an option, I wouldn’t have a PM or President as their duties don’t reach the masses. Instead the power should be entrusted with the youth about how to carry out the numerous tasks to run the country. Youth should create communities to define responsibilities and duties for the administrators. Our glorious past has been forgotten by the citizens and through our film, we are revisiting those events and achievements, turning the pages back and bringing those moments back to the viewer’s minds.”
Yeh Hai India’ will be jointly directed by G.K Yogesh and Lom Harsh and jointly produced by Lom harsh & Sandeep Choudhary under the banner of DLB Films Pvt. Ltd.
