Nitin Bal Chauhan – LFW Summer/Resort 2012
Inspired by the many cartoons that are in the Disney stable, Nitin Bal Chauhan ensured that the theme was reflected perfectly in his collection that had that distinct fun filled touch which he is well known for. Keeping the colours story on the blue shade card with bits of red, Nitin used washed denim for men's and women's wear and added on matching bags, belts, headgear and accessories. Known to use the most unconventional materials for his creations, Nitin added on leather, canvas, fibre glass, acrylic, wires, metallic gauze and even test tubes and junk to mould them into flowers and wild head gear. Presenting a variety of innovative cuts, prints and textures, Nitin created a range that will cause a stir for the fashion conscious wearer. The dominant inspirations from the cartoon characters were Mickey Mouse's ears and Minnie's bows along with polka dots and buttons. The show opened to the strains of a lone trumpet player on the ramp with a cafe backdrop. A sexy white dress completely embellished with buttons, a high waist denim pair of jeans, a jumpsuit and a sheath with frayed detailing worn with gladiator sandals revealed some extreme creative touches from Nitin. Men's wear had some heavy duty jeans with hardware as accessories and interesting stylish details given to each pair. Tees sported the Mickey images and a khaki dyed denim military coat was arrestingly different. Bringing in red for denim, Nitin added double epaulets for white shirts and then displayed a line of striking Op-art print dresses and maxis with a Mickey centric print, ending his collection with a black gown embellished with metal buttons and Mickey inspired sleeves. It was the finale that brought the audience roaring with approval and wildly applauding when Minnie Mouse came to life and skipped down the ramp blowing kisses all around. For the audience it was an evening of pure childhood nostalgic memories as they relived their past and the happy moments they spent watching the wonderful world of Mickey and Minnie from Disney. Disney Couture will undoubtedly be a hot seller for the stylish buyers as they move into a world of fun wear for the first time.
