MUMBAI: Veteran actress Achala Sachdev passed away today at Pune Hospital.
Aged 91, In September 2011, the actress slipped in her kitchen and suffered a leg fracture. Soon she was diagnosed with multiple emboli in her brain leading to total paralysis and loss of vision.
Bed-ridden and on ventilator support, Achala’s condition became extremely critical a few days ago.
Born in Peshawar in 1920, she made her Bollywood debut with ‘Fashionable Wife’ in 1938. Haivng worked in more than 130 Bollywood films ‘Haqeeqat’, ‘Waqt’, ‘Mera Naam Joker’, ‘Julie’ are some of her most popular films. Her last Bollywood film was Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Na Tum Jaano Na Hum’, which was released in 2002. She was mostly seen playing a mother or a grand mother on screen.
