MUMBAI: PVR will select five films from those that will be showcased in the IFFA. PVR vice president of films and marketing Shalu Sabharwal and PVR Cinemas head of programming Prakhar Joshi have confirmed their travel to Ahmedabad during the festival to select these films.
These films will then get a limited release under PVR’s new Directors’ Cut & Directors’ Rare label. PVR Director’s Cut is the newest property that will be beginning its operations in Vasant Kunj in New Delhi. After getting screened in Director’s Cut, the selected five films will travel to other PVR properties across metro cities under a new brand of PVR – Directors’ Rare.
"We want to be the first ones to release a series of non-mainstream niche films that are director’s signature works under our label of Director’s Cut & Director’s Rare, which would never get a release," said PVR COO Gautam Dutta.
IFFA founder & festival director Shiladitya Bora said, "Every filmmaker wants to show his film in theaters & normally independent films are turned down by distributors. We want IFFA to bridge that gap by pioneering such initiative that will make IFFA as the Sundance of the East in the coming years."
IFFA is going to showcase films from 24 -28 August with the band Indian Ocean’s performance on the opening day & Anurag Kashyap’s The Girl in Yellow Boots Asian Premiere as the closing film.
