MUMBAI: Shemaroo Entertainment releases Best of 50s – a vale pack which includes four movies DVD from the 50’s, namely; Shree 420, Awara, Kala Pani and Madumati.
Awara and Shree 420 are both classic Raj Kapoor films. Awara is a cult film, remembered for its unconventional theme and a larger than life dream sequence. Awara was also nominated for the Grand Prize of the Cannes Film Festival in 1953. Shree 420 – a film with became a patriotic symbol of the newly independent India. Shree 420 also received Filmfare Award for the Best Cinematography and Editing.
Film Kala Pani featured Dev Anand with Madhubala and Nalini Jaywant. Both Anand and Jaywant won Filmfare’s Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress Awards respectively for the film.
Madumati is directed by Bimal Roy. The film features Dilip Kumar and Vyjyantimala. This movie bagged several awards including the Filmfare Award for the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress. It was one of the earliest films to deal with reincarnation.
