Aamir Khan Discusses Cultural Taboos At New York Summit

Aamir-Khan-UsBollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan is the only Bollywood actor who has been invited for the three-day Women Summit in New York, USA. The Summit started from Wednesday, April 22.

Aamir Khan took the opportunity to be at the event and spoke about the issues of tackling taboos in India. With the increasing problem of rapes in India, Aamir Khan said, the ‘balance of power’ needs to change in India.

He also interacted with Zainab Salbi, an Iraqi-American humanitarian, entrepreneur and author, who also happens to be the daughter of ex-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s personal pilot. The actor also discussed about his film and career with her.

Most of the time the actor spoke about the burning issue of rape, which is the serious problem in the country currently. He said,  “The balance of power in India needs to change. Unless conviction becomes swift and certain, things are not going to change in India. And very importantly, as a society we have to shun the rapist and hold the survivor close.

The event will also see participation from other big names like Helen Mirren, oscar winning actress Meryl Streep, Freida Pinto and Hilary Clinton, talk show host Jon Stewart and designer Diane von Furstenberg among others.

The audience was also shown clippings from Satyamev Jayate, Mr Khan’s show that dealt with the serious topics faced by the people of India. The actor said that the popularity of the show indicated that ‘India wants to change, India is ready for change.’
