Indrani Mukerjea, founder of 9X Media and wife of former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, was arrested on Tuesday, August 25. Just over three years after Mumbai resident Sheena Bora went missing, the police have arrested Indrani Mukerjea after being accused of murdering her sister and dumping the body in the ravines of Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
The police officers arrested her yesterday from her Worli residence, booked under sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC, claiming financial dispute behind the crime for her alleged role in her sister’s murder.
Not just Indrani Mukerjea, also her driver has been arrested in the involvement of murder, who is claimed to help the kidnapping of Sheena and the disposing of her body after setting her ablaze.
The entire incident came into limelight when driver Shyam Manohar Rai (43) spoke about the whole incident when he was arrested in connection with an illegal arms case on August 21. He confessed about his involvement in the murder of Sheena. Reportedly, he also revealed that the mastermind behind the whole plan was Indrani Mukerjea.
Earlier, police who investigated the whole situation didn’t believe the driver, but when they discovered that Sheena had been missing since 2012, they informed the Raigad police. After the officers reached the spot, they found the remains of the Woman.
A court remanded both accused in police custody till August 31 under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
Reportedly, after grilling Indrani for more than three years, the police are investigating this matter. The resulted investigation is said to be due to family dispute, but the police is not commenting on it anything as of now. They are still probing the case.
Peter and Indrani established 9X Media in 2007. Indrani was the CEO and Peter the chairman. 9X Media was founded through two companies, INX Media Pvt Ltd and INX News Pvt Ltd. In March 2009, chairman and chief strategy officer Peter Mukerjea and founder and CEO Indrani Mukerjea left their management roles at INX Media. In August 2010, INX Media renamed itself 9X Media as part of a restructuring process.
