Rahul-Rawail-Amol-PalekarIt is known now that Marathi film ‘Court’ has been selected to represent India at Oscar 2016. Soon after the decision was announced, a lot of controversies have risen. One of which was the talks of jury member Rahul Rawail’s resignation from the panel. The filmmaker later confirmed the same and stated that there is only one manipulative man in the jury and that is chairman Amol Palekar.

Rawail’s blunt revelation raised some questions as to why ‘Court’ was selected over other films. To which Rawail cleared the air by saying that his decision to resign has nothing to do with the film ‘Court’, as the jury loves the movie and stood together to choose it for Oscar. However, he then later stated that Amol Palekar has been very manipulative in his methods over a lot of matters in past. Clearly Rawail indicates that his decision to quit comes due to differences with Palekar.

While ‘Court’ is the third Marathi film to enter Oscars after Sandeep Sawant’s ‘Shwaas’ (2004), and Paresh Mokashi’s ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ (2009); ‘Care of Footpath 2’ is the first ever Kannada film to enter the Oscars. Despite the jury’s personal differences, let’s hope their chosen film bags an Academy Award this time!
