BOX OFFICE: ‘Chennai Express’ Shatters The Glass Ceiling, Touches Rs 2 Billion!

‘Chennai Express’, directed by Rohit Shetty and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, is showing no signs of slowing down even marginally. Co-produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Chennai Express’ has been on a record-smashing spree of sorts ever since its release.

MUMBAI: Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ has shattered the glass ceiling! The film has touched the Rs 200 crore threshold, and now inched very close to beating Aamir Khan’s previous record with ‘3 Idiots’.

Directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by UTV Motion Pictures and SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Chennai Express’ has been an unstoppable force at the box office, ever since its release, continuing to break records after records at the box office.

The second week figures were highly encouraging, with the film raking in Rs 37.5 million (Rs 3.75 crore) net on Monday, Rs 70.6 million (Rs 7.06 crore) net on Tuesday, Rs 44.6 million (Rs 4.46 crore) net on Wednesday. Thursday stood at approximately Rs 32.2 million (Rs 3.22 crore) net, and Friday made close to Rs 20.9 million (Rs 2.09 crore) net

And with the weekend approaching, it is safe to assume the figures will increase substantially.

The 16 day total now stands at Rs 2.0023 billion (Rs 200.23 crore) net (inclusive of paid previews)

As reported, ‘Chennai Express’ opened with a bang, with first weekend figures as follows: Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crore) net on its very first day (Friday, 9 August). Day 2 and Day 3 saw collections soar to about Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crore) net and Rs 325 million (Rs 32.5 crore) net respectively.

Including paid previews, the film had already crossed the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark by the opening weekend.
