MUMBAI: Late Yash Chopra’s final directorial venture ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ produced by Yash Raj Films, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark on its 5th day of release.
Written by Aditya Chopra, this romance-drama was released on the day of Laxmi Puja (13 November) in India, United States and Europe. In neighboring country, Pakistan, the film released on Friday 16 November, with paid previews on Thursday, 15 November.
The Indian box office figures themselves were quite exceptional, with most business coming in from multiplexes in the metropolitans: JTHJ first day figures were a good Rs 152.5 million (Rs 15.25 crore) net approximately.
The four-day total of the film was in the range of Rs 600 million (Rs 60 crore) net.
Overseas too, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ has done very well, so far. This can be attributed to the huge fan following for Shah Rukh Khan in the United States, United Kingdom and Pakistan.
In Pakistan, the film has taken an unprecedented start. The opening collections of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ inclusive of paid previews, are an outstanding Pakistani Rs 95 lakhs approximately.
On its 5th Day, i.e. Saturday, JTHJ Indian and Overseas collections sailed through the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) net mark.
Unfortunately, with the sad demise of 86 year old Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, and the Maharashtra state-wide Bandh that ensued, the box office collections for both ‘Jab Tak hai Jaan’ and ‘Son Of Sardaar’ were hit adversely.
By Sunday (Day 6) ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ Indian collections were in the range of Rs 800 million (Rs 80 crore) net, which is much lower than what the figures would have been, had there not been a bandh. Mumbai theatres, being one of the largest contributors of the box office collections, were shut from Saturday evening, all throughout Sunday, giving a notable setback to both the films in their first weekend.
