MUMBAI: Anand L Rai’s ‘Raanjhanaa’, produced by Krishka Lulla, and starring South superstar Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol, opened to very lukewarm response at the box office on Day 1.
The film, an intense love story set in Benaras opened to average reviews, and an even more average box office performance. Despite a big budget, and heavy-duty promotions, the film has not managed to curry favour with audiences. On day 1 the trends suggest a low 20% occupancy.
Meanwhile, other Bollywood releases like ‘Shortcut Romeo’ and ‘Enemmy’ are even worse off.
PVR Senior VP (Ops), Rahul Singh sounded optimistic for the Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush starrer: “As far as ‘Raanjhanaa’ is concerned, it will pick up by the evening and tomorrow. These days with Friday morning shows, one can’t tell until the 2nd or 3rd show unless it’s a huge film.”
