MUMBAI: Walt Disney Pictures’ ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Joe Roth is a film is inspired by L. Frank Baum’s novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ (1900), and is set before the event of the classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939).
Starring Hollywood star James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Bill Cobbs, Joey King and Tony Cox, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ takes fantasy to a whole new level.
The plot revolved around Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a circus magician who wanted to be a great man. Diggs gets hurled away from the dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz., where he meets the witches.
Oscar gets drawn into the problems faced by the Land of Oz and its inhabitants. He must find out who is good and who is really evil, before it is too late. But Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams) are not convinced that Oscar is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting.
The trailer reveals that as per the prophecy, Oscar must defeat the wicked witch in order to attain the royal treasure of Oz. The terrific special effects are a feast to the eyes, with most memorable being the part where the wicked witch emerges out of the fire.
‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ is set to release in India on March 8, 2013.
