Film Messenger picks up Singapore film Go, Thaddeus! at Cannes

MUMBAI: Hot on the heels of the launch of the MDA International Film Fund and the appointment of Distribution Workshop as international sales agent for the Fund’s projects, the Singapore delegation shared another piece of news today. Singapore company Lighthouse Pictures has pre-sold Go, Thaddeus!, the latest feature film to be directed by multi-award winning Yasmin Ahmad, to Korea-based sales agent and distributor of international films Film Messenger.

The development of Go, Thaddeus! comes at a time when Singapore is gearing up to host the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010. Based on a true story, Go, Thaddeus! records the trials and tribulations that the late 17-year-old Singaporean triathlete, Thaddeus Cheong, went through to achieve acclaimed success.

"I have long admired Yasmin’s work, and it is so moving and so rare to find such an internationally marketable, socially beneficial film about sportsmanship, family, friendship, and unyielding determination," said Film Messenger managing director Choi Yoonhee.

The film is currently in an early stage of pre-production.

Media Development Authority of Singapore CEO Dr Christopher Chia said, "Youth and sports are truly universal in movies and television all over the world, and Singapore has a special role to play in both. We wish Lighthouse Pictures every success as it grows steadily from inbound distribution into international production and pre-sales."

Go, Thaddeus! is scheduled for release in Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea in August 2010.
