Hammer’s catalogues purchased

New music company EverGreen Copyright has purchased MC Hammer’s back catalogue from the rapper’s bankruptcy trustee for $2.7 million (£1.5 million).

Hammer’s back catalogue features a string of hits from the late 1980s and early 1990s, including Turn This Mutha out, Too Legit To Quit, Pyar and the global smash U Can’t Touch This.

EverGreen chief executive David Schulhof tells AllHipHop.com, “The MC Hammer catalog brings some of the best selling and most popular rap songs of all time to Evergreen’s catalogue.

“We anticipate that many songs in the MC Hammer catalog will emerge as a perfect fit for licensing in movies, television shows, and corporate advertising.” MC Hammer – real name Stanley Kirk Burrell – filed for bankruptcy in 1996 with debts of more than $14 million (£7.8 million), despite earning $33 million (£18.3 million) in 1991 alone.
