Lady Gaga’s Born This Way becomes fastest-selling album of 2011 worldwide

MUMBAI: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way has become the fastest-selling album of the year around the world. With 288,000 copies sold its first day (23 May) and 1,108,000 its first week in the US, Born This Way has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart, the first Lady Gaga album to debut at the top spot.

Born This Way has also sold more than 1,000,000 copies outside the US. The album debuted #1 in the UK, where first-week sales were greater than the rest of the Top 10 combined and the best debut week by a solo American female artist since 2005. The album has also debuted at the top spot in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

Earlier this year, the title track became the fastest single in history to reach sales of 1,000,000 copies worldwide by breaking that mark in only five days. Born This Way became the first song to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 and remain at the top for more than a month since Elton John’s 1997 version of Candle In The Wind. In the last week, two other singles from Born This Way have also reached the US Top 10: Judas and The Edge Of Glory.

In addition, Judas has cracked the Top 10 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and elsewhere.
