Mumbai: Eminent director and producer, Yash Chopra released Jan Nisar Akhtar’s book Hindostan Hamara on 18 August. Jan Nissar Akhtar is a noted Urdu/ Hindi lyricist and writer for Bollywood and he is also the father of the famous lyricist and script writer Javed Akhtar.
This book Hindostan Hamara was earlier released in 1965 by Indira Gandhi. Then and now the book has been available in two volumes. The books are now priced at Rs. 600 per volume.
As the book release function proceeded Javed Akhtar went on to talk about the reasons for re- releasing the book. He says, “This book has poems that talk about love for India, nature praises, traditions and history of India. It was essential to release the book now due to the tribulations the city, the country and the lives of people are going through.”
Hindostan Hamara not only contains poetry’s by Jan Nisar Akhtar, but also many more poetry’s, some as old as 350 years have been compiled in this book. Javed Akhtar,
Shabana Azmi and Farhan Akhtar read excerpts from the book. While Javed Akhtar read a poem about Benaras and Ganga his eyes were soaked in tears.
