Mumbai: Music director Bappi Lahiri had sang for the first time for a film other than his, Taxi No.9211. The music was given by Vishal and Shekhar and the song Bambai Nagariya went on to become a surprise hit, fetching Bappi da success as a singer after a long time. When AR Rahman heard Bappida’s rendition of that song he summoned him to sing the title song for the Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming hindi film, the Abhishek-Aishwarya starrer Guru.
Sharing the news with us the music director singer told us, “I feel very honoured that A.R.Rahman who today is one of the best composers in the world likes my voice. I was given total freedom to sing the song in my own style. I have sung for many stars in the past and it feels exciting to sing for stars of today.”
The song has been picturised on Abhishek Bachchan and is about a Bengali who comes to Chennai. “The song suited Abhishek a lot. I guess Bappi’s voice in the film sounds so good on Abhishek,” says Rahman.
