Mumbai: Director Kamal B Nathani’s second film With Love…Tumhara made on a budget of Rs. 2 million is all set to release in August. The film stars Nakul Vaid, Parvin Dabbas, Preeti Jhangiani and Anupama Verma. The director is all set to showcase the film at the festivals this year at Karachi, Dubai and Toronto.
Nathani’s debut film The Hope though not a commercial success was nominated for the National Award and received rave reviews at the Miami festival. The Hope he says was based on the Kashmir issue and was well appreciated at the Pune Festival and in Germany too. “I had shot the film in natural light in twenty days at Rohtang Pass. I made the film without using lights or even reflectors on the locales.
With Love…Tumhara is a simple, sweet and realistic film. You can identify with each character in the film. It is a film from six to sixties audience. It is about relationships between a mother and son, a daughter-in-law and a father-in-law, etc. There are no item songs, or sex or fight scenes in the film. It is cinema in its purest form,” says director Nathani.
Director Nathani had assisted directors Sai Paranjpye during the making of Chashme Baddoor and Pankaj Parashar in Jalwa. He had also scripted and directed India’s first full-length video film Doctor Doctor in the early 80’s.
However, With Love Tumhara is director Nathani’s does not boast of a big star cast. “It was a purposeful decision,” says the director. “I wanted actors for the script since my film has a strong powerful content and the kind of films that I make I wanted stars who could give me bulk dates.
The film has been shot entirely in Kulu and Manali in thirty days, which was the base of my script. I wanted my stars to come and stay and shoot the entire film in one go. Could I have done that with big stars?” he replies. “The music of the film also is very strong and adds freshness and beauty to the film. Ultimately the content is more important,” he concludes.
