It is below the belt, it does not have a plot, it pushes you to a point of no return, it is insipid and it is called Humshakals.
First of all never try and re-make a cult film, O Teri fell flat with Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro and now Humshakals I guess will see the same fate if not worse, as it has tried to copy Angoor.
With every film Sajid Khan is making, his standards are on a downslide. Humshakals is a film not even for ZERO IQ MORONS, as it has nothing to offer except for loud and crass jokes, that really do not make you laugh, even if one is asked to laugh on gunpoint.
Humshakals is about Ashok Singhania (Saif Ali Khan), who has a huge business empire. His best friend is Kumar (Riteish Deshmukh) and then there is an evil maternal uncle Kunwar Amar Nath Singh (Ram Kapoor).
Ashok Singhania’s father (Akash Khurana) is in coma and the greedy Kunwar Amar Nath Singh wants to take away all the business from under the nose of the rightful heir and so wants to prove that Ashok Singhania (Saif Ali Khan) is mentally unstable. Well that’s pretty much what Humshakals is all about.
In a ward of the mental asylum where Ashok and Kumar end up, they find out that the villain, too, has a lookalike, a man who responds with great violence every time somebody sneezes in his presence. I hate germs,” he hollers.
As we all know there are three Saif Ali Khan’s, three Riteish Deshmukh’s and three Ram Kapoor’s in the film doing what Sajid Khan knows best. Bipasha Basu, Tamannaah Bhatia and Esha Gupta are just there, doing nothing.
Saif Ali Khan looks very out of place and disinterested, Riteish Deshmukh I guess has done the film for his friend Sajid Khan and one can see that he is trying hard to do all that he can, but with no script things are really not in his hands, and lastly Ram Kapoor too is in the same boat as in Riteish as there is no character, no script, nothing.
What’s ghastly is the script of Humshakals because there is none. Sajid Khan has been a huge disappointment because he has everything on a platter; a lavish production, a great cast and a grand release, but then Humshakals will sure sink without any noise.
Humshakals is written by Robin Bhatt, Sajid Khan and Akarsh Khurana who have made a complete mockery of the profession. The direction is tacky and very juvenile.
Watch the film if you are desperate or else wait for next week for Ek Villain.
Guess Bipasha Basu will have the last laugh!
