Tri Continental film fest calls for entries

MUMBAI: The Tri Continental Film Festival has called for entries to its fifth annual event.

The fest seeks completed films that reflect the equal rights of all regardless of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, age, disability and those categories enshrined in the Constitution, says a release. The festival, which will begin this year at Cinema Nouveau, Rosebank and travel to Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria, is committed to promoting a human rights culture through film.

The festival showcases outstanding documentaries, narrative features and short films from the three continents of Latin America, Asia and Africa each year. Beyond cinema screenings, selected films will be shown countrywide through an outreach programme, that reaches people in community and educational settings within all nine provinces of South Africa, says a release.

The festival is spearheaded by the Human Rights Media Trust and Uhuru Productions, in co-operation with non governmental organisations, civil society groups and sponsors. Many of the films chosen at the festival travel to sister festivals in Asia, Latin America and other African countries, the release adds.

Films sent as entries to the festival must have storylines concerned with the global South. Further details can be obtained at http://www.3continentsfestival.co.za for entry forms, rules and regulations.
