Sony Pictures Entertainment has partnered up with China Film Company for the official Chinese remake of American blockbuster My Best Friend’s Wedding. The two production houses that have earlier collaborated for various film projects are thrilled about this new venture and wish to create a masterpiece for the Chinese audience.
The original film My Best Friend’s Wedding released in 1997 starred Hollywood stars Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Dermot Mulroney and Rupert Everett in the lead roles. If you have watched the film already, you would know how epic this romantic comedy is that teaches us the true meaning of the quote, ‘if you love somebody, set them free’.
The Chinese remake of the film is set to come out next year on Valentine’s Day and will star actors Shu Qi, Feng Shaofen, singer Song Qian, Victoria Song and Ye Qing. Blood Brothersdirector Alexi Tan will be producing and directing this remake. Tan has co-written the script with novel writer Hong Jiu and Fu Linran.
Both the production houses expressed their excitement on this new collaboration. China Film Co. executive Ling Hong stated that the company is delighted to be collaborating withColumbia Pictures, which is a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment for this exciting remake of a film that has become an international comedy classic. Sony Pictures China’s head of production Dede Nickerson also added his excitement of working with Alexis Tan and the incredible line up of Chinese stars for the film.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has previously co-produced Chinese films like Kung Fu Hustle andAng Lee’s Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon. Columbia Pictures is currently in postproduction of the film Monk Comes Down The Mountain that is a dark comedy film directed by Chen Kaigeset to release on July 3, 2015.
