Zoya Akhtar’s star studded film Dil Dhadakne Do has managed to cope up with Kangana Ranaut starrer Tanu Weds Manu Returns by a close margin. Although Tanu Weds Manu Returns (TWMR) has single handedly left the star-studded film behind by almost 13 crores net (130 million) approx. While TWMR has been faring well across India, Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD) on the other hand is acquiring major chunk of its business from cities like Mumbai and Mysore.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns that released on May 22 managed to collect a gross amount of Rs 68.50 crores net (685 million) approx while Dil Dhadakne Do that hit theatres only a week ago on June 05 has raked in Rs 55.50 crore net (555 million) approx thus brushing past Zoya Akhtar‘s film by a margin of Rs 13 crores approx. However considering the overall collections, Dil Dhadakne Do went on to top the overseas chart of Bollywood films.
Overseas earning of Dil Dhadakne Do has been better compared to the releases this year among Bollywood films. The film grossed Rs 48 crores net (480 million) approx in India while the overseas collection amounted to $3.15 million (19.50 crore i.e. 195 million) approx thus making it the biggest worldwide opener of 2015 at a total of Rs 67.50 crore approx.
However Tanu Weds Manu Returns has joined the list of films by achieving the third highest third week of all time after PK and 3 Idiots.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns offers a unique love story where a married couple who are struggling with their marriage fall in love all over again. While Zoya Akhtar’s DDD tells the story of a dysfunctional Punjabi family on a cruise trip and their complicated lives showing how everyone is bound by societal norms. While TWMR has managed to fare well for itself, only time will tell how DDD fares by competing with Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Jurassic World that released yesterday.
