MUMBAI: The International Arts Movement will feature producer Dunja Klemenc and filmmaker Macky Alston at its 2008 Encounter, ‘Generative Creativity: Transforming the Cultural River,’ 28 February – 1 March at Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC) in lower Manhattan.

Klemenc co-produced the Oscar-winning No Man’s Land, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2002. Her new film, Warchild, will be featured in the Encounter’s curated film series, and she will be present for an in-depth discussion afterwards. Macky Alston and founder/executive director of Exodus Transitional Community, Julio Medina, will also participate in a dialogue about their film Hard Road Home (South by Southwest Film Festival), facilitated by film curator Sarah Hanssen (Hamptons International Film Festival, Pratt Institute).

Additional programming for the encounter includes an art exhibit, music competition, lectures, musical performances, poetry readings, topical workshops, and vibrant inter-disciplinary artistic collaborations.

(Artist, National Council for the Arts) and The Los Angeles Collaboration.

IAM, an arts advocacy movement founded by Makoto Fujimura in 1991, is a non-profit organization that engages its creative community in both philosophical and pragmatic discussions about the role of the arts in creating “the world that ought to be.” While artists today are known mostly for their rebellion, alienation, addiction and apathy, IAM believes artists can be articulators of hope and aims to catalyze a movement of artists to be agents of “cultural Shalom”.
