MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Releasing International has been promoted Ralph Alexander to senior executive vice president, international operations and distribution.
In his new role, Alexander will oversee SPRI’s 23 managing directors as well as the general operational and administrative issues of the territory offices. He will also work on a wide range of issues arising out of the territory offices as well as from SPRI’s licensees and joint venture partners, BVI and Warner Bros.

Alexander began his international film as a management trainee in Chile for United Artists and worked as East Africa representative for Columbia Pictures, BVI, UIP and Warner Bros. based in Nairobi. He has held such varied positions as General Manager of the Warner/Columbia joint venture in Belgium and BVI’s London-based European theatrical sales manager. He joined Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International – the predecessor to Sony Pictures Releasing International – in 1987 as managing director for the United Kingdom. One year later he was appointed director of sales and distribution, relocating to the home office. He was promoted to vice president in 1990 and was made senior vice-president, sales and distribution in 1995. Since 1999, he has served as executive vice president, international distribution.
