MUMBAI: Belltower Entertainment has acquired the motion picture, literary and life rights to produce Smokescreen, based on Robert Sabbag’s best-selling book of the same name. An action-adventure, Smokescreen tells the true life tale about Allen Long, an American documentary filmmaker who began smuggling pot out of Mexico and then Colombia in the seventies, featuring countless near-death episodes.
Belltower plans to begin filming in Fall 2010, with a target release date in the Spring of 2011.
With the addition of Smokescreen, Belltower now has three feature films in various phases of development and pre-production.
In August, Belltower announced the signing of Ericson Core (Invincible) to direct Dance The Green, a collaboration with Academy Award-winning writer Barry Morrow (Rain Man) which tells the story of legendary golfer Moe Norman. Dance The Green will begin shooting in spring 2010.
Earlier this year, Belltower announced A Kid for Christmas, (working title) a family comedy written by Josh Goldstein (Fresh Prince of BelAir, HBO’S Arli$$ and Disney’s Jungle Cruise). A Kid for Christmas is currently casting and is slated to begin pre-production by the end of this year in Shanghai, China.
