Toy Story 3 reigns supreme at box office; Karate Kid takes 2nd spot

MUMBAI: Disney-Pixar’s new animated film Toy Story 3 has kicked last week’s numero uno film The Karate Kid to second spot at the box office.

Toy Story 3 mopped up $109 million in its opening weekend and was released across 4,028 locations. This is the biggest-ever opening for a Disney Pixar film. Previously, The Incredibles held the record for best animation film opening in 2004.

Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith starrer The Karate Kid grossed $29 million in its second weekend, taking its total box office collections to $106.25 million.

20th Century Fox’s The A-Team collected $13.75 million over the weekend, taking its total collections to $49.8 million. Universal’s Get Him to the Greek took the fourth spot this weekend with $6.11 million taking its cumulative box office collections to $47.85 million.

Another animation film – Paramount and DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After was in fifth place with collections of $5.5 million this weekend, taking its total box office to $222.97 million.

This weekend, Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time was in the sixth spot with $5.27 million and total collections till date of $80.50 million, followed by Lionsgate’s Killers starring Ashton Kutcher at seventh spot with $5.1 million (total – $39.36 million), Warner Bros’ Jonah Hex at eighth spot with $5.08 million, Paramount’s Iron Man 2 at ninth spot with $2.67 million (total – $304 million) and 20th Century Fox’s Marmaduke at tenth place with $2.65 million (total – $27.88 million).
