GOA: One of the highlights of the Film Bazaar’s Knowledge Series organized by NFDC was a session by the Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin.
Akin’s new movie Soul Kitchen was also screened at NFDC’s Film Bazaar section. According to Akin, he wrote the film in just five days at a time when he was desperate and broke.
Speaking about his childhood and his inspiration to become a filmmaker, Akin said, “I was drawn to cinema since I was five years old. I was watching a reel of Bruce Lee’s movie Fist of Fury on a small projector in my cousin’s house. The image of Bruce Lee kicking the bad guys, the sound of the projector, the dark room, etc left a very strong impact on me. That’s when I knew I had to be a filmmaker,"
Akin also added that the charisma of heroes, the adventure and violence was what drew him to the alternate world of films.
He also added that filmmakers should make a movie that is understood universally by people and not just one section of the society.
Some of the members of the Indian film industry who saw Akin’s film Soul Kitchen at Film Bazaar were impressed with the director’s work.
