MUMBAI: The Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara(ZMND) road show with the cast traveling though the North Indian hinterland, a journey that culminated with a live concert earlier this week in Delhi featuring Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif,Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol, has stolen the thunder from the Rockstar team.
Apparently Rockstar leading man Ranbir Kapoor and his director Imtiaz Ali had the same idea, of a road show culminating in a gig. But now with the ZMND team going on the road and on stage the Rockstar team is doing some quick re-thinking.
A source tells Businessofcinema.com, “Imtiaz Ali had planned elaborate gigs on stage to coincide with the release of Rockstar on 11 November. Ranbir had not only learnt to play the guitar, he was also secretly rehearsing AR Rahman’s wow compositions, so he could play them live at the concerts.”
But now with Zoya Akhtar’s team performing life the Rockstar team feels doing stage concerts would look repetitive.
Adds the source, “Ranbir feels he’d look like he’s doing a naqal (copy) of Katrina and gang. Moreover Farhan, feels Ranbir, is a professional musician and a singer. In comparison Ranbir feels he’d look like an amateur.”
With the Zindagi team making Rockstar look like they are doing the live act dobara, Ranbir and his team are now thinking of a completely different strategy to promote Rockstar.
And this time they won’t share their strategy with anyone for fear of having their thunder stolen.
