MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 smashed the record for a midnight opening, taking in $43.5 million.
The film broke the midnight opening record for IMAX theatres with a $2 million gross on IMAX screens.
The midnight opening record came on the heels of the film setting the record for advance ticket sales. Many of the opening day’s shows were sold out weeks ago as moviegoers rushed to be among the first people to see the most successful film franchise of all time.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is the first Harry Potter film to be released in 3D and 2D. Concurrently, the film will be released in select IMAX theatres and has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience through proprietary IMAX DMR technology.
