BOX OFFICE: ‘Race 2’ Garners A Steady 5 Day Total

The Abbas-Mustan directorial ‘Race 2’, which hit cinema screens on 25th January 2013, is still going strong at the box office. ‘Race 2’, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez has literally taken a galloping start in its first five days.

MUMBAI: The Abbas-Mustan directorial ‘Race 2’, which hit cinema screens on 25th January 2013, is still going strong at the box office. ‘Race 2’, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez has literally taken a galloping start in its first five days.

‘Race 2’ garnered a whopping Rs 150 million (15 crore net) on its opening day, while Saturday being a national holiday on account of Republic Day saw a massive business of Rs 205 million (20.5 crore). This has been the highest figure accomplished by the film on a single day so far. Sunday again saw a decent number in the range of Rs 151 million (15.1 crore) net, which boosted the 3-day weekend total business of ‘Race 2’ to an astounding Rs 506 million (50.6 crore) net.

Monday has been a slower day for business, with ‘Race 2’ managing to scrape a mere Rs 68 million (6.8 crore) net. Day 5 Tuesday, earned in the range of Rs 62 million (Rs 6.2 crore) net. Nonetheless, it’s been a good run at the box office for the stylised action flick, despite the negative reviews by many. The five day total of ‘Race 2’ stands at Rs 636 million (63.6 crore) net.

This weekend, two Hollywood films are set to hit the marquee: the first being Salman Rushdie’s Booker Prize winning novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ on-screen adaptation by Indo-Canadian director Deepa Mehta; and the latter being Paramount Pictures’ ‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ directed by Tommy Wirkola, which stars Hollywood stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Both these films may give a notable competition to ‘Race 2’, along with Bejoy Nambiar’s ‘David’, which also releases this Friday.
