MUMBAI: If you hadn’t got your daily fix of Amitabh Bachchan via his super successful reality TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, fret not. The Shehenshah of Indian cinema is poised to rule TV with a new fiction show, directed by none other than filmmaker Anurag Kashyap!

After Sanjay Leela Bhansali forayed into fiction television, it is now time for Amitabh Bachchan to test the waters.

Mr. Bachchan was sighted at the announcement of this new TV show, which will be a fictional serial, and will be directed by Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap had directed Bachchan in a segment of the avant garde film ‘Bombay Talkies’.

The TV series will go on floors this December.

Bachchan, dapper in a grey suit, announced in his baritone: “I was looking to do something different on TV. I was keen on doing a fiction show. It is a little premature to talk about what the story is about.”

“Whenever we do something different, there is always pressure, anxiety and danger. We are scared of expectations (ummeed se jaan nikal rahi hai). A lot of people told me I am reducing my stature when I did TV for the first time. Now that I would turn 71, there is no stature left, so I decided what I have not done, let’s do it,” he added, with a characteristic dose of wit and charm that is now synonymous with being Bachchan.

The TV show will be co-produced by Endemol and his company Saraswati Productions. Bachchan said that he had spent many hours discussing the script and what the project would be like with Anurag. “I have always wanted to work with Anurag.”

Also present at the press con to announce the show was Senior EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television Sneha Rajani and COO, Multi Screen Media, N P Singh.
